While it is easier than ever to listen to children's music online or watch videos, nothing takes the place of experiencing a live music performance. No matter where you live, you should be able to find live children's music events in your area. Some require paid admission, but many others are FREE! Attending a live performance can be a special experience for a child, with the ability to interact with the performer and with other children, and a chance to sing-along or dance.

Here are some options you might explore:

Concert Venues - Many theaters and music venues offer special children's/family music series in addition to their programming geared for adults.

Libraries - While this is most common in the summer, children's music events may be scheduled at any time of year.

Shopping Centers - Many malls offer daytime morning "Kids Club" - type events all-year-round, while outdoor centers mostly offer family events in the Spring and Summer.

Parks & Recreation - Your local community center may schedule children's music shows.

Restaurants and Cafes - It is becoming more common for coffee shops and restaurants to offer free children's entertainment as a way to draw in customers.

If you have some or all of these free entertainment options in your area, it is important to support them by attending when you can. And if you and/or your child enjoys the experience, please tell your friends. Healthy attendance encourages the venues to continue their efforts, and can even motivate other venues to start their own programs.

A vibrant local children's music scene with plenty of venues creates great opportunities for local artists - and plenty of opportunity for attendance at these events. Since artists are typically paid to perform at these venues, you are helping to support your local artists when you attend. It's a winning combination all the way around - the parents and caregivers get shows to attend, the artists get paid gigs so they can continue to perform, and the venues and businesses get more exposure and visits.

Please leave a comment if you have anything to add about live children's music experiences in your area.

Thanks, The Children's Music Team
